KINGSTON PARISH COUNCIL

Traffic Speed on Wellgreen Lane/Ashcombe Lane (C.324)

The Parish Council has resolved to acquire a Speed Indicating Device (SID), which will be deployed in Wellgreen Lane and Ashcombe Lane to visually indicate to drivers the speed at which they are travelling and, where appropriate, to shame them into reducing that speed. This would provide an interim measure pending the implementation of more permanent measures in the future.

A number of residents indicated in the questionnaires, which were completed early in 2004, and the results of which were reported in the June edition of the Kingston news, that they were prepared to give of their time and volunteer to form part of a team to operate such a device. The Parish Council hopes that a number of persons will now come forward and volunteer to act for not more than one session of, say a couple of hours, per week, or less if a sufficient number of names are put forward.

It will be necessary for volunteers to attend one two hour training session prior to the deployment of the SID and they will then be covered by the County Council's insurance policy. Locations for the deployment of the SID will be checked by the County Council to ensure that there is no undue risk to operatives or others.

This is your opportunity to make a real difference to traffic conditions through the village and the safety of the users of the road. Please indicate your willingness to help by contacting the undersigned.
Thanking you in anticipation
